TOP 5 : Tim Browning from The Shake Up

Sydney’s Teh Shake Up are heading over this weekend to play a couple of shows – Auckland’s Cassette on Friday and Wellington’s Mighty Mighty on Saturday. So we asked Tim Browning from teh band to tell us what five songs are snapping his fingers right now…

1. R. Stevie Moore – I Like To Stay Home
Devo’s ‘Through Being Cool’ + Ariel Pink’s ‘Don’t Talk to Strangers’ = R. Stevie Moore’s ‘I Like To Stay Home’.
I also don’t care about hockey games.

2. Flux – Patterns of Traffic
I listen to Flux’s ‘Protoplasmic’ album a lot. James Plotkin’s music leaves me with simultaneous feelings of comfort and dread.

3. Sandpit – Along The Moors
Sandpit are a Melbourne band who existed just long enough through the mid-to-late 90s to make one great album.

4. The Dux – Squarepusher Theme
The insanely intricate ‘Squarepusher Theme’ feels like Return To Forever on speed. You’d be crazy to try and physically play the programmed drum parts — oh wait, this guy has:

5. Bad Brains – God of Love
‘God of Love’ proves two things:
a) On a good day, Bad Brains can make the most ridiculous things sound cool
b) Madonna ain’t all bad.
