St. Vincent, a.k.a Annie Clark, will debut her new full band show in New Zealand to promote her third album STRANGE MERCY, when she plays here in March.
This is not Clark’s first trip to NZ: she has previously performed at the New Zealand International Arts Festival, and with fellow Texans The Polyphonic Spree (when she was in the band) – bt it will be St Vincent’s first headline shows on these shores.
Her latest album Strange Mercy came out in September 2011 and debuted at #18 in the Billboard Top 200 in the US and scored 9.0 by Pitchfork, the album has been selected for key year-end lists: #7 in NME, #8 in Q, #9 in Time, and #26 in Rolling Stone (US), among many others.
St. Vincent’s recent show in London received a four star review from The Guardian (UK):
“Pure and luscious…(sending) prickles up the spine. Clark extracts maximum fuzziness from her guitar, her plectrum technique so fierce that a woman sitting near me gasps: ‘She plays like a man!’” (quote supplied by promoter – Cheese on Toast is not really sure what gender and musical ability have to do with each other, if anything…)
St. Vincent will be backed by her three piece touring band, playing two shows only: Auckland, 18 March at the Kings Arms and Wellington, 19 March at San Francisco Bath House. Tickets available from 23 January at Under the Radar, Real Groovy and Slow Boat Records.
