The legendary blues and R’n'b singer Etta James has passed away aged 73.
She died on Friday morning of complications from leukemia at a hospital in Riverside, California.
James had been in unwell for years; she also suffered from dementia and kidney failure. Her two sons had been in a court battle with their stepfather over conservatorship of her $1-million estate. Doctors announced in December that she had chronic leukemia.
Etta James had been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce had awarded her a star at 7080 Hollywood Blvd in 2003 and in 2008 she was awarded Billboard’s R&B Founders Award.
