If Joe Satriani et al. weren’t all such bloody show ponies they’d play in bands like Irish trio Adebisi Shank. The bassist insists on wearing a red pillow case over his face like a Christmas rapist while the guitarist makes more annoying sex faces on stage than every porn star ever. At the same time. It’s all good though because his guitar sounds like a pinball machine.
Jenny Owen Youngs – Last Person
J.O.Y knows how to write a slammin’ tune and I’m a sucker for a sing-a-long. She’s also a total robo-babe. Need I say more?
The Invisible – London Girl
One of England’s most overlooked bands in the last few years. I was lucky enough to catch them play in my local pub before I left the UK. It’s basically sex music.
Sleep – Dragonaut
Sleep were lucky enough to be around during the age of the ‘cash advance’. They signed to London Records and spent it all on amps and weed. They then recorded a one hour long song entitled Jerusalem which the label refused to release. This track is from their previous album ‘Holy Mountain’ It’s pretty much poor man’s Black Sabbath but what’s wrong with that?
Huey Lewis And The News – Hip To Be Square
Proton Beast love Huey Lewis And The News. I also love how ridiculous the video is. If you’re unlucky enough to run into us at the Russian karaoke bar in Newmarket this is what you’ll hear. Multiple times. We may or may not have recorded a cover of this song.
