Cheese on Toast gave Jared a phone call the other week, ahead of them coming back to NZ for their third time next week (Playing Auckland’s Powerstation on Feb 28th)
We chatted about their first real experience working with a record producer – Mark Ronson, on their latest album; the awesome music video for Raw Meet – which features Johnny Weeks from the Wire in it; Jared revealed that they nearly had Omar in the clip too; it was good to go, but then a flight got delayed. We chatted about TV – he’s been watching Walking Dead cos it’s filmed in his home town but we agreed that they have spent way too many episodes looking “for that stupid girl”.
Jared also recounted the now infamous story of when the band had to run away from authorities while on tour in India and escaping to King Khan’s place in Germany. I asked if they’ve, as they’ve gotten older, toned things down in their live shows; he admitted that perhaps they don’t personally get so wild so often these days; that the audiences seem to do that for them now; “Not so much wee drinking now then?” I asked – “That hasn’t happen in a while… it depends on the night” he replied.
