Boys & Girls by ALABAMA SHAKES

Are you the type of person who gets into bands because you heard their song on a TV show? Or worse, a TV commercial? Did you go to this “awesome underground band called Fleet Foxes” to check them out ‘cos your friend has a friend who told you about them at a barbeque just before Christmas and “man, were they epic!”. Did you go to The National at one of their three sold out Powerstation shows last year after hearing “their sophomore album High Violet – what? it’s not their sophomore?”.

The answer to these rhetorical questions is, I suspect, since you are reading this,  probably no. But music-snobs among us all know the type who say yes. They went to Laneway and talked about I Am Giant during Toro Y Moi and they think Kora are great for NZ Music Month. And, good on Kimbra.

Have you heard Kings of Leon? I have. And now I have heard Alabama Shakes and it’s pretty much the same.

No thanks.

Track Picks
Hold On – Will be played by your annoying neighbors loudly at their parties; you will enjoy calling noise control.
Also that douche bag who does acoustic covers will learn it.

RATING 2 / 10

And people call me a music-snob like that’s a bad thing?

  1. I admire you for the courage of your convictions, but you, sir, have ears of cloth.

  2. I kinda get what you’re saying here… I think Albama Shakes is definitely a band that parents and annoying colleagues will jump on with a vengeance. And play to death until you never wanna hear it again. But it’s a pretty solid debut album.

  3. Gosh your readers are brilliant.! :)
