TOP 5 – from DJ Sampology

Dj Sampology is playing at Cassette this Saturday night.

Whose Sampology when he’s at home?

Well this is off his Facebook Page :

Sampology is no ordinary turntable technician. His legendary “Super Visual” AVDJ series has earned him an undeniable reputation as Australia’s leading Audio Visual DJ, playing a number of the world’s greatest music, film and arts festivals including Big Day Out, SXSW, Big Chill Festival, Berlin Music Festival, Falls Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sydney Festival, Tropfest and Adelaide Fringe Festival.

He’s unlike your regular artist releasing singles, EPs and albums, and touring live music venues and clubs around the world. (Although he does a lot of this too!) In 2011, Chris Lilley of Angry Boys/Summer Heights High fame hand picked Sampology to produce an audio and video remix for S.Mouse on his Angry Boys Soundtrack release, and iconic Australian act The Wiggles came to Sampology as their go-to man for an audio and video remix on their 20th anniversary tribute album “ReWiggled”.

Following his debut “Super Sounds EP” release in 2011 and his recent single release “Hell On Wheels” featuring Kween G, Sampology is about to release his debut album, ‘Doomsday Deluxe’ coinciding with his 2012 Super Visual blockbuster, hitting the road in Australia midyear before touring UK, Europe and USA in the third quarter of 2012.

“Sampology makes me wanna breakdance” – Peaches

“…Sampology has turned spinning records into an art form as he combines sound and vision to create a multimedia sensation” – British Theatre Guide

“Sampology is dope as hell!!!…I mean not as dope as me, but dope enough…” – DJ Craze

“Seeing Sampology live made me reconsider the possibilities of what a DJ can do.” – AC Slater

“Sampology is one creative dude.” – Yoda

“Sampology warmed up for me in Brisbane. The show was all the better for it – selection and technique was on point. Its not often that i’m really really into the DJ before me this much but I was really impressed.” – Sinden

Well anyway, I thought I’d get the low down on his current top 5 tracks for you to check out; and this is what he sent …

Hyperparadise – Flume remix – Hermitude
The original track by Hermitude was easily one of my favorite joints from 2011, Flume’s remix which came out last week definitely gave a massive amount of new life. The lead get’s stuck in your head in a pretty comfortable way.

Needs Deoderant – Mony Poly
My mate Danielsan introduced me to this dude, this was the stand out track of his for me, the groove is incredibly funky but the bassline and wierd synths give this dark vibe which makes for a really nice dancefloor tune.

Private Idaho – B52s
The first time I heard this was actually when it came on late at night on RAGE, the set up of video clip is pretty basic but I remember the personalities in each of the band members jumping out at me from the screen, great track!

Selekta – DJ Craze
On the Moombahton tip but the definitely the more female friendly side rhythmically, goes off in every set and it’s not too heavy that it scares people away.

Moments In Love – Art Of Noise
This is a favorite of mine in DJ sets, even though it was made in the mid 80s it still works really well over big sound systems alongside 808 type hiphop at the same tempo and because it’s pretty much all instrumental you can do some cool blends with it live as well, big but deep.
