NZ promoter and website Rose Quartz are teamig up with Will & Gill from Australia to present two NZ Maria Minerva (100% Silk) shows this August.
In her own words, “Maria Minerva is myself as my own little sister, born out of need to do whatever. Maria Minerva has not heard of HQ recording. Maria Minerva has not heard that postmodernism is passé. Maria Minerva wishes she was born in the 1980s and born again in the 1990s. They call it lo-fi, I call it 21st century folk music…”
Maria Minerva is Maria Juur, born 1988 in Tallinn, Estonia.
Maria was freelancing as an art and music critic while studying art history at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Together with her partner-in-crime Maria Arusoo, she was also one half of the artist duo mariaUNDmaria. It was during her 3rd year of uni when she got into music-making and quickly became the local lo-fi princess.
Maria’s love affair with London began in 2009 when she was interning at The Wire Magazine, in 2010 she moved to London permanently to do her Masters at Goldsmiths College, University of London. In 2011, Maria Minerva signed to the acclaimed Los Angeles based label Not Not Fun and released her debut cassette “Tallinn At Dawn”, Not Not Fun’s dance-oriented daughter-label 100% Silk also put out her 12″ “Noble Savage”. On August 1, Not Not Fun released her LP, the highly anticipated “Cabaret Cixous” both on CD and vinyl, on November 15 100% Silk put out Maria’s 2nd EP “Sacred and Profane Love” Maria has been featured in the Guardian, the NME, Uncut, Vice Magazine, The Wire Magazine, Dazed & Confused, Vogue, Pitchfork and countless other publications.
Her sophomore LP on Not Not Fun and “the integration LP”, a collaboration with LA Vampires are out this Winter.
