An announcement from Mystery Girl that was embargoed until 9.30am this morning (we were supposed to keep it secret till then) that Dirty Projectors were headed back to NZ in January has been revealed by the New Zealand Herald early this morning. On Christmas Eve the Herald may also be releasing a list of presents that Santa has planned for delivery to your house on the 25th (if that’s a thing you celebrate).
Dirty Projectors are from Brooklyn NY, consisting of David Longstreth (vocals, guitar, musical direction), Amber Coffman (vocals, guitar), Haley Dekle (vocals), Nat Baldwin (bass), Olga Bell (vocals, keyboards), and Michael Johnson (drums).
They released their sixth studio album in July. To write the album, frontman David Longstreth decamped to remote Delaware County, four hours northwest of New York to dream up seventy potential tracks across a sprawling twelve months. Joined periodically by his band – guitarist and lead female vocalist Amber Coffman, bassist Nat Baldwin, drummer Brian McOmber and vocalist Haley Dekle – they rehearsed and recorded the full-length in the A-frame attic of his temporary upstate home.
