Angel Haze is a 21 year old New York City based MC and her new mixtape Classick is out on 25th October – but she’s shared Cleaning Out My Closet ahead of the release.
It’s a confronting and, some might say, harrowing listen. In the song she recounts growing up in a home where she was sexually abused as a seven-year old. She pulls no-punches and no holds are barred with the song which she prefaces with “When I was 7, envision me at the bottom of stairs / And I solemnly swear that this is the truth, no fallacy here / See I was young, man, I was just a toddler, a kid / And he wasn’t the first to successfully try what he did.” before recounting in explicit detail the atrocity of rapes. It’s a fearless and strong piece of work.
In a press release she said “[I] would like to start out by saying its really, really explicit and probably the realest song I’ve ever recorded. Forgive me if it’s a little out there, but it’s something I felt I honestly had to do”
She’s used the beat from Eminem’s expository 2002 original of the same name.
