Further to the recent Cheese on Toast post Benjii Jackson gives us the lowdown on BREL my friend Stinky Jim pointed out that Cheese on Toast was incredibly remiss to omit Scott Walker who most notably recorded several Jacques Brel compositions – which were compiled on the 1981 album Scott Walker Sings Jacques Brel.
Mathilde, My Death and Amsterdam all originally featured of Walkers album “Scott” released in 1967 :
On his 1968 album Scott 2 he performed Jackie, Next and The Girls and the Dogs :
And, then on his 1969 album Scott 3 – Sons Of, Funeral Tango and If You Go Away
And if that’s whetted your Scott Walker appetite – maybe watch this excerpt from the BBC’s The Culture Show which was originally screened 30 March 2006 – it’s totally worth every moment of the then minutes it’ll take you to watch it.
But, wait, there’s more – check this clip from the 2006/2007 4AD the 30 Century Man documentary, where Damon Albarn, Goldfrapp, Johnny Marr, Radiohead and others speak about the music of Scott Walker.
