TOP DOZEN : Tuesday 1 January 2013

There are six brand new entries to the Top 12 songs bringing in the New Year over at CoT Mansion this week!

Counting down…

12 – A$AP ROCKY – Fucking Problems

Still lovin’ the A$AP – three weeks solid in the chart, but droppin’ to 12 to make way for new tunes.
Long live A$AP…

11 – ICONA POP – I Love It

Ok, I still ‘love it” – and it’s still kinda annoying. It was a new entry last week at number 4 and has dropped to 11 this week… bratty n awesome…

10 – POPSTRANGERS – Heaven
From their long awaiting debut long-player coming out via Carpark / Spunk early this year; Auckland’s Popstrangers drop from six to ten this week to make way for the even newer tunes!

9 – THE RUBY SUNS – Kingfisher, Call Me
Still awesome – the lead single from the new Ruby Suns album Christopher coming out soon via SubPop.

8 – UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA – Swim And Sleep (Like a Shark)
NEW ENTRY
I was a huge fan of UMO’s debut album – I’m lucky enough to have in my possession an advance copy of the brand new album – out in February – titled II – and it’s freakin’ awesome! Swin and Sleep (Like a Shrak) is, of course, the lead single from the album. Also – the song is available as a 7″ single available only at their shows (playing NZ in January!)

7 – THE EVERSONS – The End of The World
NEW ENTRY
The Eversons released this digital single just a couple of days before Xmas to coincide with the impending apocalypse that, thankfully, never happened. It’s about the apocalypse that happens when someone you don’t want to break up with breaks up with you. Doo-wop Buddy Holly-esque brilliance!

6 – FRANK OCEAN – Wiseman
NEW ENTRY
Another new entry into the CoT Top Dozen – a brand new song from Frank Ocean penned especially for the Django Unchained soundtrack – but didnt end up making the movie. Not ‘cos it’s not awesome enough, but ‘cos Tarantino couldn’t find a scene that worked with it.

5 – NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS – We No Who U R
Up from it’s new entry point of nine last week; the new single from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds from their forthcoming new album Push The Sky Away (out in Feb) is just more and more haunting every time I hear it.

4 – STREET CHANT – Sink
The latest single from Street Chant is infectious as f–k – I totally love it. It was number one last week. I don’t love it any less now though.

3 – PAQUIN – Silhouette (Kutcorners Remix)
NEW ENTRY
Paquin’s awesome sing Gunn has been in the Cheese on Toast Top Dozen for the past two weeks – topping the chart – but it’s been replaced, this week, with their song Silhouette, as remixed by new CoT pal and DJ Kutcorners. So flippin’ great… check it out…

2 – SOLANGE – Some Things Never Seem To Fucking Work
NEW ENTRY
So, Solange’s Losing You has been (and still is) a daily requirement in the office here at Cheese on Toast Mansion – but this song, from the True EP – acts as a perfect part-two to that song and slams it brand new into Number Two!

1- PULP – After You (2012 Version)
NEW ENTRY
New Pulp song? Produced by James Murphy?
YES. BLOODY. PLEASE.
This song is so freaking great – and, seemingly, Pulp’s parting gift.
