NICH CUNNINGHAM
THIEVES
MAYA & VANYA MILANA RADOJCIC
Riding / Palace Brothers
From There Is No One What Will Take Care Of You (1993)
What the hell is he talking about? Appalachian incest? There’s a live version of this on Lost Blues and Other Stories which is darker and kind of better. I met this guy once. I had lots of questions. Instead, he interrogated me for twenty five minutes. While wearing stubbies. On a bar stool. He did not cross his legs.

What is Life / George Harrison
From All Things Must Pass (1970)
If you can forgive “I Got My Mind Set On You” then this is a good song. And it’s amazing that despite (or because of) Harrison spending ten years in a band with Paul McCartney, he  manages to sound so optimistic.

Your Invisible Life / Bailter Space
From Tanker (1988)
Hamish Kilgour was drumming for Bailter Space at this point and I think he might be singing on this song too. Nice urban isolation and desolation themes while still beautiful: Like the last episode of the Sopranos “It’s all there”. Probably won’t come as a surprise they were living in Christchurch at the time.

I Will Wait / Pere Ubu
From Dub Housing (1977)
This song kind of blew my young and impressionable mind when I first heard it. David Thomas’ voice is just plain weird – he sounds like he’s vari-speeding over the rest of the band. I only paid $2 for this record – cheaper than acid.

Hey Chicken / Loose Fur
From Born Again In the USA (2006)
I discovered this in the midst of some kind of Wilco stupor: Loose Fur is Jeff Tweady , Glenn Kotche and Jim O’Rourke for anyone who cares. It’s a pretty nasty song: “You want me broken / You want me dead / I’m living rent free in the back of your head.” Nice. If only me so good write.

Douster - King of Africa
Been rocking this track in our sets for a few months now and still love it! Douster uses samples from the infamous movie The Lion King that everyone knows, combined with upbeat African drumming that make you wanna dagger on the dance floor.

Four Tet - Love Cry (Roska Remix)
A nice n chilled out uk funky tune with sexy vocals and the signature Roska drums and deep bassline, good one for chilling by the pool on a sunny afternoon.

Enur feat Natasja - Calabria 2007
Great summery track that makes you want to be at a beach party in brazil sipping on a Caipirnha and fanning yourself with a banana leaf

Maya - Gadda get thru dis baby
A track made by Maya using various sample from tracks such as Daniel Bedingfield - I gotta get through this and Major Lazer - What U Like, and added drum loops and bass

Dirtybeats - Alone in the jungle (Tom Piper Remix)
This is like a future hit as its not released just yet, but it's crazy cool remix by Sydney's cool cat Tom Piper, pretty energetic track with a breakdown that really gets your emotions going and drop that gets your mind thinking you're running through a jungle

BONUS track: Ninjasonik - Somebody gon get pregnant

Liars- I still Can See An Outside World
The other night I watched a pretty intense horror. Late at night. By myself. Needless to say, it left me pretty uneasy. It was with this mindset that I decided to finally give the new Liars album a listen. It made me want to crawl out of my skin and hide. This song in particular almost broke my mind. It was awesome!

Yeasayer- Mondegreen
I’m not a morning person. At all. Last few times that I had to get up at 7am, this song was the only thing that could get me out of bed, bright eyed and bushy tailed. It’s better and stronger then a cup of coffee!

The XX- Crystalised
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who fell a little bit in love with Romy and Oliver at Laneway last week. Especially Oliver. Yeeah... Umm... Anyway. Every time this song comes on, it makes me stop whatever I’m doing and it takes me some place else... Every single time.

Lux and Ivy’s Favourites Vol. 1- Vol. 9
I kinda feel like I’m cheating here since it’s not one track but 367! Consisting of rockabilly, surf rock, garage and general oddities, there are many hidden gems on these compilations as well as some tracks that are a bit... meh. I’ve been slowly going through these compilations, mostly while doing stuff around the house. It makes cooking an interesting experience. I dare you to listen to these and keep still! Not easy, huh?

Harry Nilsson- Coconut
The place where I work always plays same baaaad music for weeks on end. Feelers and Jack Johnson and Brooke Fraser come to mind. This song is on one of the compilations that has been on rotate for some time. It makes me smile (and sometimes dance and sing along really badly too) every time it comes on.

THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART
Since forming in early 2007, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart have become one of the most talked about pop bands in years. Their distinctive brand of noisy pop is a tidy distillation of all the great noise-pop precedents - early MBV, House of Love, Pale Saints, Rocketship - but with that incredible exuberance and energy that the Pains bring to every song.Since forming in early 2007, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart have become one of the most talked about pop bands in years.
